Himachal CM Sukhu Condemns Assam's Adani Power Agreement, Vows Rigorous Investigation
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Assam on Sunday, asserting that its decisions are jeopardizing the state's vital resources. Speaking at a press conference held at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati, Sukhu specifically targeted a recent power generation agreement, alleging it disregards public welfare.
Allegations Against Assam's Power Deal with Adani
Sukhu disclosed that the Assam government has entered into a pact with Adani Power for generating 6,000 megawatts of electricity. He strongly contended that this arrangement is not in the public interest, highlighting a significant cost disparity. According to the Chief Minister, the power purchase agreement has been fixed at Rs 6.30 per unit, whereas electricity from solar energy projects is obtainable between Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 per unit. This price difference, he argued, places an undue financial burden on consumers and the state's economy.
Congress's Pledge for Action and Critique of BJP's Governance
The Himachal leader declared that if the Congress party forms the government in Assam, all such matters will be subjected to a thorough investigation, with strict actions taken against any individuals found guilty of misconduct. Sukhu further criticized the BJP's decade-long rule in Assam, stating that the state has not seen the anticipated advancements in economic growth and employment opportunities. He accused the BJP of engaging in politics based on caste and religion, expressing confidence that the public will not be misled this time, and the party's political objectives will not succeed.
Highlighting Himachal Pradesh's Achievements Under Congress
To underscore his points, Sukhu cited Himachal Pradesh as a model of effective governance under the Congress administration. He reported that the state's per capita income has risen to Rs 2.83 lakh, which is approximately Rs 64,000 higher than the national average. Additionally, he outlined key welfare initiatives: up to 250 units of electricity are provided free on two meters, with extremely poor families receiving up to 300 units free. Despite the discontinuation of annual assistance worth Rs 8,000-10,000 crore under the RDG scheme, Sukhu emphasized that Himachal Pradesh is progressing towards self-reliance through stringent financial discipline.
Advancements in Education and Healthcare
The Chief Minister also highlighted Himachal Pradesh's accomplishments in social sectors, noting the state's high literacy rate and significant improvements in education and healthcare services. These developments, he suggested, contrast with the situation in Assam, reinforcing his critique of the BJP's governance approach.
