IAF's Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team Set to Captivate Chandigarh with Sky Spectacle
The skies over Chandigarh are poised for a spectacular display of aerial prowess as the Indian Air Force's renowned Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) prepares to perform on March 27 and 28, 2026. This thrilling event, open to the general public, will take place at the picturesque Sukhna Lake, offering residents and visitors a front-row seat to one of Asia's most elite aerobatic formations.
Precision Flying and Breathtaking Manoeuvres
Flying their distinctive brightly painted red and white Hawk trainer jets, the Surya Kiran team will execute a series of precision flying routines that include dramatic dives, loops, barrel rolls, and inverted flying. These breathtaking aerial manoeuvres have consistently enthralled audiences both domestically and internationally, cementing SKAT's reputation as a premier aerobatic unit.
Second Visit to Chandigarh in Six Months
This marks the second time in just six months that the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team will grace Chandigarh's skies. Their previous appearance occurred in September 2025 during the ceremony marking the culmination of MiG-21 operational flying. Prior to that, the team had dazzled city residents during the Air Force Day flypast at Sukhna Lake in October 2022, creating memorable aerial displays that left spectators in awe.
World-Class Aerobatic Formation
Established in 1996, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team holds the distinguished title of Ambassadors of the Indian Air Force. They represent one of the very few nine-aircraft aerobatic formations globally and stand as the only such team in all of Asia. The nine-aircraft configuration represents the highest number of aircraft in any aerobatic team worldwide, showcasing exceptional coordination and skill.
Three Decades of Aerial Excellence
Over their impressive thirty-year history, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team has conducted more than 800 displays, demonstrating unwavering commitment to excellence and public engagement. Their performances not only highlight technical mastery but also serve as powerful recruitment tools and public relations initiatives for the Indian Air Force.
The upcoming Chandigarh airshow promises to continue this legacy of excellence, offering a rare opportunity to witness military aviation at its most artistic and precise. Aviation enthusiasts and families alike are encouraged to mark their calendars for what promises to be an unforgettable spectacle in the northern skies.
