Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday, marking their first public interaction in more than ten years. According to reports, the meeting took place at Seva Teerth in the national capital and lasted approximately 25 minutes. The visit came just weeks after Vijay assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Key Issues Raised by Vijay
During the meeting, Vijay reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister highlighting several pressing issues concerning Tamil Nadu. The memorandum included concerns about the Vande Mataram controversy, the Mekedatu project dispute, defence-related projects, and the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
One of the primary issues raised was the ongoing debate over singing Vande Mataram during official government events. Reports indicate that Vijay urged the Prime Minister to direct the Union Home Ministry to allow the Tamil Nadu state anthem to be sung before Vande Mataram at official functions.
Guard of Honour at Tamil Nadu House
After concluding the meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Vijay arrived at Tamil Nadu House in Delhi, where he received a ceremonial guard of honour. This was his first official visit to the national capital since taking charge earlier this month.
Social media users reacted strongly to the meeting and the reception. One user commented, “As far as I am concerned, he will be the best CM of the country.” Another wrote, “@actorvijay congratulations my capital city new delhi welcome.” A third described Vijay as “Dashing cm.”
Suresh Gopi Urges Public to Give Vijay Time
Actor and Union Minister Suresh Gopi also reacted to Vijay’s rise in politics. Speaking to reporters, Gopi said people should allow Vijay enough time to prove his abilities as an administrator before criticising him. He stated, “Let Chief Minister Vijay work. Let him work and prove himself. It would not be right to criticise him before that. People have given him a chance. Let him do a good job.”
When asked about discussions regarding Vijay’s political movement expanding into Kerala, Suresh Gopi welcomed wider political participation and said he had no objection to Vijay’s party entering Kerala politics. He remarked, “What is the problem if the Tamil Nadu party which achieved victory starts in Kerala? If he is coming, let him come. Let him come anywhere he wants, let him start. Let everyone come and benefit the world and the Tamil people.”
