In a tragic incident in Hamirpur district, three minor siblings, including a four-year-old girl, drowned while bathing in a pond at Chani village on Thursday morning. The pond was developed under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana.
Incident Details
According to reports, a villager named Parwati Srivas had gone to the village pond along with her three children — Shivendra (8), Rudransh (5), and Mandwi (4). While Parwati was washing clothes near the pond, the children entered the water to bathe. They reportedly slipped into a deeper section of the pond and began struggling.
Hearing their cries for help, their mother raised an alarm and desperately called for assistance. However, by the time villagers rushed to the spot, all three children had drowned. Locals managed to retrieve the children from the pond and immediately took them to the Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead.
Government Response
SDM Abhishek Kumar said that an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for each deceased child would be provided to the family. This financial assistance aims to support the grieving family in their time of loss.
Villagers' Concerns
Meanwhile, some villagers alleged that the village has been facing electricity disruptions for more than 10 days. This has forced many residents to rely on the pond for bathing and other daily needs, highlighting the underlying infrastructure issues that may have contributed to the tragedy.
