Ajmal Siddiqui, the Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) State Minority Cell, has resigned from his position, launching a scathing attack on the party's leadership and functioning. Speaking after his resignation, Siddiqui stated that he made the decision shortly after returning from the Hajj pilgrimage. He alleged that the party was plagued by controversies and had failed to work effectively for the people, making it difficult for him to continue in his role.
Allegations of Sycophancy and Harassment
Siddiqui claimed that internal advancement within the organization was driven by sycophancy rather than merit. He further alleged that the party's decline was linked to the leadership style of Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of TMC. According to Siddiqui, party workers faced harassment, including false cases and financial demands. These issues, he said, contributed to his decision to step down.
Future Political Moves Unclear
When asked about the possibility of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Siddiqui stated that no decision had been taken yet. He emphasized that his priority remains the industrial development and job creation in West Bengal. Siddiqui also remarked that the TMC had fooled Muslims and contrasted Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP leader, as secular.
Siddiqui's resignation adds to the growing dissent within the TMC, as several leaders have recently expressed dissatisfaction with the party's direction. The development is seen as a significant political shift in West Bengal, with potential implications for upcoming elections.
