Trinamool Congress Mocks PM Modi's 'Poriborton' Call in Bengal Amid LPG Shortage Crisis

In a sharp political attack, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's calls for "poriborton" (change) in West Bengal, accusing him of prioritizing political rallies over addressing the severe LPG crisis affecting households and businesses. The criticism emerged from a Kolkata rally on Saturday, where TMC leaders highlighted the irony of Modi's focus on electoral politics while citizens struggle with soaring cylinder prices and supply shortages.

TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh Accuses BJP of Wasting LPG Cylinders at Rally

TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh claimed that while Parliament is actively discussing the LPG crisis and inflationary pressures, the Prime Minister chose to attend a political meeting in Bengal. She alleged that large quantities of LPG cylinders were used to prepare snacks for participants at Modi's rally at Brigade Parade Ground, even as many homes and eateries face severe gas supply disruptions.

"Restaurants are shutting down due to the lack of cooking gas, and many households have stopped preparing meals altogether. Yet, at the BJP's Brigade rally, approximately 250 LPG cylinders were reportedly utilized just to fry jalebis and kachoris," Ghosh stated, emphasizing the perceived disconnect between political activities and public welfare.

State Education Minister Bratya Basu Questions Modi's Priorities

Echoing these charges, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu of the TMC criticized Modi's actions ahead of the imminent assembly polls. He pointed out that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ensured the continuity of LPG supplies and the mid-day meal scheme in the state, contrasting this with the Prime Minister's focus on political campaigning.

"While the entire nation grapples with this critical crisis, the Prime Minister should have been in Parliament, engaging in discussions and seeking solutions. Instead, he has traveled to Bengal solely to engage in vote-bank politics," Basu remarked, questioning Modi's commitment to resolving public issues.

TMC's Social Media Critique of Modi's 'Change' Slogan

The TMC further amplified its criticism through social media platforms, directly challenging Modi's "poriborton" slogan. The party argued that before lecturing Bengal about change, the Prime Minister should address the harsh reality where citizens are forced to stand in endless queues just to keep their kitchen fires burning.

"The irony is stark: as people battle price rises and cylinder shortages, political rallies are consuming resources that could alleviate public suffering. This highlights a clear misalignment of priorities," the TMC stated online, urging a shift from political rhetoric to actionable solutions.

Context of the LPG Crisis and Political Implications

The LPG crisis has become a focal point in national discourse, with rising prices and supply chain disruptions impacting millions. In West Bengal, the issue has taken on added political significance as the state prepares for upcoming elections. The TMC's accusations underscore a broader narrative of holding the central government accountable for economic hardships while championing state-level initiatives under Mamata Banerjee's leadership.

As the debate intensifies, the confrontation between the TMC and BJP over governance and public welfare is likely to shape political discourse in Bengal, with both parties vying to demonstrate their commitment to addressing citizens' daily struggles amid inflationary pressures.
