Reports indicate that Nirmal Debbarma had been confined to his home since Friday afternoon by a group of opposition supporters. This confinement occurred after an alleged attack by Tipra Motha cadres, who reportedly vandalised his property. The violence erupted shortly after BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee visited Nirmal to assess poll preparations, adding a layer of political tension to the incident.

According to sources, the conflict initially stemmed from Tipra Motha supporters confronting BJP workers outside Nirmal’s home, questioning Bhattacharjee’s visit. What began as a verbal clash quickly spiralled into physical violence, with police intervention proving insufficient as attackers overpowered them. At least eight police personnel were injured in the melee, including Sepahijala SP Bijoy Debbarma, highlighting the severity of the confrontation.
Security Response and Evacuation
To de-escalate the volatile situation, reinforcements from the Tripura State Rifles and Assam Rifles were dispatched to the scene. After hours of tense negotiations, security forces successfully evacuated Nirmal Debbarma and his supporters around 2am, relocating them to Bishalgarh for their safety. In the aftermath, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma accused BJP supporters of provoking the conflict earlier by targeting members of his party, adding a counter-narrative to the events.
