Twenty20 Unveils First Set of Candidates as NDA Alliance Partner in Kerala
In a significant political development, Twenty20, the newly allied partner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has announced its inaugural list of candidates for the upcoming elections in Kerala. The announcement was made on Monday by party president Sabu M Jacob, marking a strategic move to strengthen the alliance's presence in the state.
Key Candidates and Their Backgrounds
Babu Divakaran, a former Congress leader and ex-chairman of Adoor municipality, will contest from Kunnathunad, which is considered Twenty20's home turf. He will be representing the party under its distinctive jackfruit symbol, symbolizing a fresh approach in Kerala's political landscape.
In addition to Divakaran, the party has named three more candidates:
- Akhil Marar, a social media influencer and film director, will contest from the Thrikkakara constituency, bringing a modern touch to the campaign.
- Ravi Kulangara, the Kasaragod district coordinator of Twenty20 and former Kasaragod district president and state general secretary of the NCP Ajith Pawar faction, will seek election from Thrikaripur.
- Sunny Thomas, who oversaw the youth wing when Sharad Pawar formed the NCP and served as national secretary of the NCP Ajit Pawar wing, will contest from Thiruvambady in Kozhikode.
Campaign Strategy and Future Announcements
Sabu M Jacob emphasized that the first phase of campaigning for the Kunnathunad constituency has already commenced, indicating an aggressive push to secure votes. He further announced that additional candidates will be revealed on Tuesday, suggesting a phased rollout to maximize impact and voter engagement.
This move by Twenty20 is seen as a crucial step in expanding the NDA's influence in Kerala, leveraging local leaders with diverse backgrounds to appeal to a broad electorate. The inclusion of figures from other parties, such as the Congress and NCP factions, highlights the party's strategy to bridge political divides and build a cohesive alliance.
As the election season heats up, all eyes will be on how these candidates perform and whether Twenty20's alliance with the NDA can translate into electoral success in the state.
