Two people were electrocuted in rain-related incidents in Bengaluru, with the latest victim being a 21-year-old student. Syed Sufiyan, a resident of Yarab Nagar in KG Halli, came into contact with a live wire approximately 100 metres from the site of the Bowring Hospital wall tragedy. The incident occurred amidst heavy rainfall that has lashed the city, leading to waterlogging and hazardous conditions.
Details of the Incident
According to officials, Sufiyan was walking in the area when he accidentally touched an exposed electrical wire that had fallen due to the rain. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The Bowring Hospital wall tragedy site, where a wall had collapsed earlier, was also affected by the downpour.
Rising Concerns Over Safety
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of electrical infrastructure during monsoon season. Residents have complained about exposed wires and lack of maintenance by the authorities. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has been urged to inspect and repair damaged lines promptly.
In a separate rain-related electrocution, another individual lost their life in a different part of the city. The identities of both victims have been confirmed, and investigations are underway. Authorities have advised citizens to stay away from fallen wires and report any hazards to the nearest control room.
Weather Advisory
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in the coming days. The civic body has deployed teams to clear waterlogged areas and ensure safety. However, the recent deaths highlight the urgent need for better infrastructure and emergency response.
