Two nursing students from Kerala died in a road accident on Mysore Road in Bengaluru on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Anjali (22) and Meera (23), both pursuing nursing at a private college in the city.
Accident Details
The accident occurred near Kengeri when the scooter they were riding was hit by a speeding lorry. Police said neither of the students was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which resulted in severe head injuries and their death on the spot.
Police Investigation
Traffic police reached the scene and rushed the bodies to a nearby hospital for postmortem. The lorry driver has been arrested, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.
Senior police officials warned about the importance of helmet use. "Helmets can save lives. This tragic incident could have been avoided if they were wearing helmets," said a traffic police inspector.
Family and Community in Shock
The families of the victims have been informed and are traveling to Bengaluru. The college administration expressed grief and announced support for the families. Fellow students held a condolence meeting on campus.
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of road safety in the city. Authorities urge all two-wheeler riders to wear helmets and follow traffic rules.
