SRINAGAR: Two soldiers attached to a unit deployed in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri sector, close to the Line of Control (LoC) and approximately 100 kilometers north of Srinagar, were fatally wounded on Tuesday afternoon in what the Army described as an accidental blast.
Details of the Incident
The deceased soldiers were identified as Arjun Jadhav and Vikram Balakrishna, both hailing from Maharashtra. They were immediately evacuated to the Army's 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar but could not be saved. They were declared dead on arrival, according to Srinagar-based Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Sahu.
The spokesperson did not provide further details beyond stating that the explosion occurred in the Kamalkote area of the Uri sector. As of late Tuesday evening, the Army had not issued an official statement disclosing the circumstances surrounding the blast.
Security Preparations for Amarnath Yatra
In a separate development elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir, state police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) conducted a comprehensive joint mock drill in Pahalgam in preparation for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to commence on July 3. The Union Territory government has already declared the Pahalgam and Baltal yatra routes as a no-fly zone from July 1 until the conclusion of the pilgrimage. Additionally, helicopter services catering to pilgrims will be suspended during the yatra period, the government confirmed.
These measures are part of intensified security arrangements to ensure the safety of pilgrims. The mock drill involved coordination between multiple agencies to simulate emergency scenarios and response protocols.
