Salem: In a tragic incident near Gangavalli on Saturday night, two women were crushed to death under the wheels of a tipper truck after their motorcycle skidded during heavy rain, causing them to fall onto the road.
Victims Identified
The Thalaivasal police identified the deceased as Jayakodi, 50, wife of Mohan, and her maternal aunt, P Valliammal, 70. Both were residents of Pakkambadi village in Chinnasalem taluk, Kallakurichi district.
Accident Details
According to a police officer, the accident occurred around 9 pm on Saturday when the duo was returning to their village via Periyeri after visiting a relative near Gangavalli. It was raining heavily at the time.
As they moved off the road to make way for a tipper truck approaching from behind, the two-wheeler skidded, and both women fell onto the road. The truck ran over them, killing them instantly, the officer said.
Driver Flees Scene
The driver stopped the tipper truck a short distance away and then fled, the officer added. Upon receiving an alert, Thalaivasal police and tahsildar Jayakumar arrived at the spot. The bodies were recovered and sent to the government hospital at Attur for postmortem examination.
Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the tipper truck driver.
