Udhayanidhi Stalin Demands Removal of TVK MLA Over Sexual Abuse Allegations
Chennai: Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday demanded the immediate removal of TVK MLA from Srivaikundam, G Saravanan, for allegedly backing TVK functionaries accused of sexually abusing a woman.
In a post on X, Udhayanidhi alleged that the ruling party sacked the survivor who chose to lodge a complaint, instead of acting against the accused. He asked whether Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay was genuinely concerned about women’s safety.
Citing the survivor’s statement, Udhayanidhi said another woman too had allegedly faced a similar assault and that TVK senior leaders were aware of the abuse. He alleged that the “Sofa model govt” was trying to cover up the issue.
Referring to Vijay’s speech at the launch of the Singappen special task force, Udhayanidhi said the CM had expressed anguish over incidents of sexual abuse but his government was “acting against the victim instead of those accused”. He asked whether the task force had been created merely to make reels. He urged the CM to ensure justice for the victim, remove MLA Saravanan immediately, identify party leaders who were allegedly aware of the incidents and take action against them.
