A 12-year-old boy in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, triggered a large-scale police search after shouting that he had been kidnapped while riding a motorcycle with his mother and uncle. The boy later admitted he staged the drama to avoid returning to school after the summer break.
Incident Details
The class 6 student, identified as Aryan, had been spending his summer holidays at the Rapti Nagar residence of his maternal uncle, Ravi Mishra. On Tuesday evening, his mother Shalini Devi arrived at her brother's house to take him home. Around 10 pm, as the three were traveling on a motorcycle, the boy suddenly began shouting for help about 100 meters from the house. He allegedly shouted that he had been kidnapped and that the man and woman on the motorcycle were kidnappers, prompting residents to alert the police.
Police Response
The information triggered a late-night search operation by teams from the Chiluatal and Shahpur police stations. Police scanned CCTV footage and tracked the motorcycle before reaching the family's home in Shastri Nagar around 2 am. During questioning, Aryan told police that he did not want to return home because he would have to resume his studies. He said he wanted to continue staying with his maternal uncle and grandmother and hoped people would stop them from taking him away.
Family Confirmation
His mother confirmed that the boy had been unwilling to leave his maternal relatives' home. Chiluatal SHO Suraj Singh said police found that the child was with his family members and that no offence had been committed. “The boy wanted to stay at his uncle’s house. That is why he raised the alarm while being taken home,” he said.
