UP CM Yogi Adityanath Grieved Over Drowning of Three Teens

Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday expressed sorrow over the death of three teenage boys who drowned in the Rapti river while bathing near the Rajghat area of Gorakhpur on Tuesday evening. He directed officials to provide all admissible government assistance to the bereaved families at the earliest and personally coordinate with them.

Chief Minister's Response

Describing the incident as heartbreaking and tragic, the chief minister prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength to the grieving families. The victims were identified as Irfan, 16, Hans (also known as Nikku), 13, and Shakti Gautam, 13. They lived on the same lane in the Hansupur locality and were close friends.

Sequence of Events

According to residents, the boys had been playing cricket in the neighborhood before heading towards the river with another friend. The fourth boy in the group informed locals about the drowning before leaving the area. Police are trying to trace him to ascertain the exact sequence of events.

Search and Recovery Operation

Upon receiving information, teams from Rajghat police station and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a search operation in the river. Grief engulfed the area after all three bodies were recovered following hours of searching.

The chief minister's directives aim to ensure that the affected families receive timely support from the government. Local authorities have been instructed to maintain close contact with the families and expedite all admissible benefits.
