UP Police to Deploy 60,000 New Constables for Beat Policing

Lucknow: Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Friday directed all police units across Uttar Pradesh to intensify surveillance on cross-border radicalisation networks, caste-based hate campaigns, and organised criminal activities. He also emphasised strengthening beat policing through the deployment of over 60,000 newly recruited constables.

Statewide Review Meeting

Chairing a statewide review meeting via video-conferencing from the police headquarters, Krishna reviewed crime control, cyber-monitoring, public grievance disposal, and traffic management with senior police officers. He instructed officials to maintain strict vigilance on anti-national and terror-linked networks that allegedly use social media platforms to mislead and radicalise youth from across the border.

Focus on Social Media Monitoring

The DGP ordered stronger monitoring of online activities and immediate action against individuals spreading caste hatred and communal tension through digital platforms. Police social media monitoring units were directed to upgrade technical surveillance capabilities to track inflammatory content in real time.

Deployment of New Recruits

Krishna described the induction of 60,244 newly recruited constables as a “once in a generation opportunity” for UP Police. He ordered their maximum deployment in beat policing, foot patrolling, and public outreach programmes. Officers were instructed to ensure proper behavioural training, accommodation, and mess facilities for recruits, and to maintain regular interaction with them.

Crackdown on Cow Slaughter

Krishna also ordered special statewide drives against cow slaughter and cattle smuggling. He directed police units to identify financial and logistical networks linked to such rackets and take stringent action.

Crime Review and Prevention

Reviewing serious crimes such as murder and robbery, he instructed district police chiefs to analyse crime patterns, strengthen local intelligence networks, and ensure swift preventive action. Senior zonal and range officers were told to personally supervise sensitive incidents and ensure prompt, factual media briefings to prevent rumours and misinformation.

Performance and Grievance Redressal

The DGP expressed satisfaction over Uttar Pradesh’s performance in the ‘Crime in India 2024’ report. He also reviewed the disposal of public complaints and IGRS cases, with special emphasis on resolving women-related complaints through Mission Shakti centres.

Road Safety Initiatives

On road safety, Krishna reviewed the ongoing Zero Fatality District (ZFD) campaign and the C-RTC initiative aimed at reducing traffic congestion in 20 districts. Police units were instructed to improve coordination between CCTV monitoring teams and local police stations for better traffic management.
