Who is Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan?
Vice Admiral Swaminathan is a highly decorated officer with over three decades of service. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1990, and is a specialist in navigation and direction. He has held key command and staff appointments, including Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command and Chief of Personnel at Naval Headquarters.
Key Roles and Achievements
He has served as the Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy and as the Naval Attache at the Indian Embassy in Moscow. His expertise includes maritime operations, strategic planning, and personnel management. He is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, College of Naval Warfare, and the Naval War College in the United States.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi's Tenure
Admiral Tripathi, who took over as CNS in April 2024, will retire after completing his tenure. During his leadership, the Indian Navy focused on enhancing operational readiness and indigenisation under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
