Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has ignited a fresh political controversy by appointing astrologer Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister. The appointment comes shortly after a previous row over the Tamil anthem issue.
Background of the Appointee
Vettrivel, known as a spokesperson for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and a close aide during the recent election campaign, reportedly predicted Vijay's electoral victory. His new role has raised eyebrows among political circles.
Reactions from Opposition and Allies
The move has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders and allies. Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil questioned the rationale behind appointing an astrologer to a government post. VCK leader D. Ravikumar also expressed disapproval, calling the decision unscientific. CPM leader Shanmugam P termed it against constitutional values.
These reactions highlight growing discontent among coalition partners, who view the appointment as a step backward for rational governance. The controversy is expected to fuel further debate in the state assembly.
