Political strategist and predictor Vimal Singh shared his analysis of the Bengal and Assam election results and the road ahead. While Assam's outcome was largely expected, the Bengal situation was fluid and changed significantly from 2021.
Ground Realities in Bengal
According to Singh, voters were disillusioned with the lack of development and rising crime and lawlessness under the Mamata Banerjee government. When Mamata replaced the Left in 2011, people were excited for change, but after 15 years, their hopes remained unfulfilled. Singh observed discontent, especially in smaller towns beyond Kolkata, and noted that poverty levels were declining sharply. Bengal's culture is rich and its people relaxed, but they desire simple development to enjoy life. The BJP positioned itself as a solid alternative, gradually gaining favor.
BJP's Road Ahead
Singh emphasized that the BJP needs a clear plan for development and reviving Bengal's culture and industries. Many industrial houses were on the verge of leaving the state, but he advised them to stay. The BJP must understand Bengal's uniqueness and fulfill people's aspirations for change and industrialization.
TMC's Future
Mamata Banerjee is known as a lone fighter, but this time she faces internal challenges, particularly with her nephew. With Lok Sabha elections three years away, she will fight back, but the situation is different.
Impact on Uttar Pradesh
Singh noted that the Bengal results offer lessons for the Samajwadi Party. Chief Akhilesh Yadav should introspect and devise a new strategy, as the BJP has gained momentum. He should engage directly with people to make an impact.
Assam's Success Story
Himanta Biswa Sarma's success in Assam is attributed not only to polarization but also to tangible development. He brought industries, created jobs, opened his office to corporates, and offered incentives and tariff reductions. This approach is worth emulating.
