Kanpur: In a tragic incident, a woman allegedly strangled her four-year-old daughter to death in Akbarpur Itaura village under the Aata police station area in Jalaun. Police cited a prolonged domestic dispute between the husband and wife as the likely motive behind the crime.

Incident Details

The incident occurred at around midnight on Thursday. Villager Rajkumar was sleeping at home with his family. He was lying on a separate cot with his two sons, Umang and Mayank, while his wife Vineeta was sleeping on another cot with their four-year-old daughter, Naina. According to police, Vineeta strangled Naina while the child slept.

Discovery of the Murder

The murder came to light when the village electricity suddenly went out after around 12 at night. Rajkumar woke up after the fans stopped and saw Naina lying unconscious on the floor with no movement in her body. Hearing Rajkumar’s screams, neighbours gathered, but the child was already dead.

Police Response and Investigation

On Friday morning, as news spread, grief and outrage were reported in Akbarpur Itaura village. After receiving information, Itaura chowki police, Aata station head Ajay Singh and CO Kalpi Awdhesh Kumar Singh reached the spot with a heavy police force. A forensic team was called to secure evidence. Police inspected the scene, took possession of the child’s body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

Motive Behind the Crime

Police said there had been discord between the husband and wife for a considerable period and the atmosphere at home was frequently tense. The initial investigation pointed to the dispute as the primary motive behind the murder.

Accused in Custody

Police took the accused mother, Vineeta, into custody. Contradictions were found in her statements during interrogation. Villagers said quarrels over petty matters destroyed a once happy home, leaving two brothers without their sister and the father with memories and regret.
