UP Assembly Winter Session Begins, Supplementary Budget on Dec 22

The winter session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is set to commence, with significant legislative and financial business on the agenda. The Yogi Adityanath-led government will present a supplementary budget for the financial year 2025-26 on December 22. The session begins on Friday, with the first day reserved for adjournment after paying condolences to former and sitting members.

Key Agenda: Budget, Bills, and Patriotic Discussion

The House will formally convene on Monday, December 22, which will be a busy day. Alongside the supplementary budget, the Assembly will hold a discussion on 'Vande Mataram'. Furthermore, the government is likely to table three new bills, which are expected to be passed by the state cabinet on Saturday, a day before the session's formal start.

The supplementary budget is anticipated to allocate funds for a major aesthetic upgrade to the Vidhan Sabha building. A new light system is planned for the dome, which will use light mapping technology to showcase Uttar Pradesh's rich culture and history. The government aims to complete this installation before the All India Presiding Officers' conference scheduled for the third week of January 2025.

Leadership Calls for Cooperative Spirit

Ahead of the session, Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana chaired an all-party meeting on Thursday to ensure smooth proceedings. He appealed for cooperation from all political parties, emphasizing that the House functions effectively only with the collective effort of every member. He highlighted the positive discussions held during the previous monsoon session.

"Meaningful solutions to public problems can be found through logical, factual, and quality discussions on public welfare issues," Speaker Mahana stated.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was present at the meeting, described the Assembly as a crucial platform for voicing public aspirations. He assured that the government would actively participate in all discussions and respond positively to every question from the opposition, seeking solutions in line with their suggestions.

Vision 2047 and Electoral Reforms Highlighted

CM Adityanath recalled the marathon 27-hour discussion on the UP Vision Document 2047 in the last session, a feat he claimed is unique to Uttar Pradesh. He revealed that 9.8 million suggestions have been received from across the state for developing a prosperous Uttar Pradesh. This vision document is being prepared in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur and the previous discussion is being compiled into a book.

On electoral integrity, the Chief Minister mentioned that the Election Commission has initiated the Special Summary Revision (SIR) to clean up the voters' list. He noted cooperation from all public representatives, calling the inclusion of genuine voters a step that strengthens democracy.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna echoed the sentiment, stating that smooth conduct of the House is only possible with the cooperation of both the ruling and opposition parties. The stage is now set for a session focused on financial approvals, legislative business, and discussions on state development and national spirit.
