Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj, the treasurer of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, has stated that the trust's audit system is fully transparent and backs the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of theft at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Transparent Audit System Defended
Speaking to reporters on July 5, 2026, Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj emphasized that the trust maintains a rigorous and open financial oversight mechanism. "Our audit system is completely transparent. Every rupee donated and spent is accounted for," he said. He added that the trust has nothing to hide and welcomes any investigation to clear the air.
Support for SIT Probe
The treasurer expressed full support for the SIT investigation ordered by the Uttar Pradesh government following allegations of theft of donation boxes and mismanagement of funds. "We have always believed in accountability. The SIT probe will only strengthen the trust's credibility," he stated. The allegations surfaced last week, with some devotees claiming that cash and valuables from donation boxes were missing.
Allegations and Response
The allegations, which have gained traction on social media, prompted the state government to intervene. The SIT, comprising senior police officers, has been tasked with examining the security of donation boxes and the handling of offerings. Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj noted that the trust has already conducted an internal inquiry and found no evidence of theft. However, he reiterated that an independent probe would dispel any doubts.
Impact on Temple Operations
The Ram Temple, which opened to devotees in January 2024, receives millions of rupees in donations daily. The trust has implemented a digital tracking system for donations, but some devotees prefer cash offerings. The controversy has not affected the temple's daily operations, with thousands of pilgrims continuing to visit. Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj urged devotees not to be swayed by unsubstantiated claims and assured them that the temple's sanctity remains intact.
