A majority of senior Congress leaders in Tarn Taran district have expressed support for former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for the party’s state leadership, even as district Congress president Rajbeer Singh Bhullar is understood to be backing Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

Former Patti MLA Harminder Singh Gill, former Khemkaran MLA Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, former Khadoor Sahib MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki and Tarn Taran Assembly constituency in-charge Karanbir Singh Burj have publicly extended their support to Channi.
Harminder Singh Gill said his stand reflected the sentiments of party workers in the district. “Whenever I interact with party workers, they overwhelmingly express support for Charanjit Singh Channi. I cannot ignore their views, and I believe he is best placed to lead the party,” Gill said.
Channi's Strengths
He claimed that Channi had strengthened his support base among both Dalit communities and farmers. Gill also credited Channi’s leadership of the Congress’ parliamentary committee on agriculture-related issues, claiming it played a role in the withdrawal of the three contentious farm laws by the Centre. Gill further said the Congress could deliver a strong electoral performance under his leadership.
