A fire broke out in a residential building in Delhi on Tuesday, leaving nine people hospitalised. The incident occurred in the Pratap Nagar area, where flames engulfed parts of the three-storey structure. Firefighters rushed to the spot after receiving an emergency call around 11:30 am. The blaze was brought under control after nearly two hours of effort.
Cause of the Fire
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was triggered by a short circuit on the ground floor. The flames quickly spread to the upper floors, causing panic among residents. Seven fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames. The building houses several families, and many residents managed to evacuate safely before the fire spread further.
Injuries and Hospitalisation
Nine individuals, including two women and a child, sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Most of them suffered from smoke inhalation and minor burns. Their condition is reported to be stable. The Delhi Fire Service officials confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.
Rescue Operation
The rescue operation was challenging due to narrow lanes in the area, which hindered the movement of fire tenders. Firefighters used ladders to rescue people trapped on the upper floors. Local police also assisted in the evacuation process. An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and to assess any lapses in safety measures.
Safety Concerns
This incident has raised concerns about fire safety in residential areas, especially in older buildings with inadequate wiring. Authorities have urged residents to regularly check electrical fittings and avoid overloading circuits. The Delhi government has announced compensation for the injured persons.
