Ahmedabad removes 6,887 handcarts, 25,089 illegal hoardings

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) estate department has intensified its drive against encroachments and illegal advertisements in the city. According to officials, a total of 6,887 handcarts and stalls were removed between January 1 and April 25 this year. Additionally, approximately 25,089 illegal boards, banners, and hoardings were taken down during the same period.

Vehicle Locking and Penalties

The civic body also locked 10,598 illegally parked vehicles and collected corresponding penalties. Furthermore, 49,857 miscellaneous goods and materials were removed from the city's seven zones. The data shared by AMC highlights the zone-wise distribution of these actions.

Zone-Wise Handcart and Stall Removals

  • North Zone: 1,094 carts and stalls removed
  • South Zone: 834
  • East Zone: 966
  • Central Zone: 1,075
  • West Zone: 1,532
  • North-West Zone: 873
  • South-West Zone: 513

Illegal Hoarding Removals

The West Zone recorded the highest number of hoarding removals at 7,911. Other zones saw significant numbers: Central Zone had 3,443 removals, North Zone 3,441, East Zone 3,812, North-West Zone 2,892, South-West Zone 1,833, and South Zone 1,757.

Penalty Collection

Over the four-month period, the AMC collected a total penalty of Rs 2,57,26,570. The highest amount was collected from the North-West Zone, which contributed Rs 82,28,950. This was followed by the West Zone with Rs 38,22,000 and the East Zone with Rs 35,01,400. Other zones also contributed to the total penalty amount.

The AMC's continued efforts aim to clear public spaces and ensure compliance with city regulations. The drive has been particularly focused on removing unauthorized structures and advertisements that obstruct pedestrian movement and violate municipal norms.
