Anti-Drone Shield to Be Part of Smart Border Security Grid
Anti-Drone Shield for Smart Border Security Grid

The Indian home ministry has decided to incorporate an indigenously developed anti-drone shield into a 'smart border security grid' aimed at curbing cross-border drone smuggling of narcotics, arms, and ammunition, according to sources. This shield is expected to be deployed soon to counter drones used by the ISI and drug traffickers, who often collaborate to drop weapons and drugs in border areas, especially in Punjab.

Components of the Smart Border Security Grid

The grid will also include the land port management system (LPMS), launched by Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday. This system will feature sensors and smart fencing to enhance border security and surveillance. The LPMS is an integrated platform designed to enable end-to-end digital workflows for cargo processing and passenger movement across all land ports.

Home Minister's Remarks on LPMS

Speaking at the launch, Shah stated, "The LPMS system, which brings together every stakeholder and data system, will become a vital component of the envisioned 'smart security grid' in the coming days. It will help ensure both economic and physical security." He added that the system will increase synergy and information-sharing among agencies and that the home ministry will implement the 'smart border' concept, which, along with LPMS, will make borders impregnable.

Expected Benefits of LPMS

Shah highlighted that LPMS would reduce paperwork by 90%, cut waiting times for cargo trucks by 22-35%, and constrict gate processing time by 40-60%. Additionally, it is expected to boost tourism and raise trade volumes.
