Bengaluru civic drive to tow abandoned vehicles from July 10

The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) will launch a civic drive to tow away abandoned vehicles across the city starting July 10. The initiative aims to clear public spaces of derelict vehicles that obstruct traffic and pose safety hazards.

How residents can report abandoned vehicles

Residents have been urged to report abandoned vehicles through the Public Eye feature on the BTP's ASTraM app. According to a senior traffic police officer, the app allows users to upload photos and location details of such vehicles, enabling swift action by the authorities.

Scope and impact of the drive

The drive will cover all major roads, residential areas, and commercial zones. Vehicles that are unregistered, severely damaged, or left unused for extended periods will be towed to designated impound lots. Owners can reclaim their vehicles by paying the applicable fines and towing charges. The BTP has warned that vehicles not claimed within a specified period may be scrapped. This move is expected to free up parking space and improve traffic flow in congested areas.
