Drive Extends Clearance to New Areas

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has cleared an additional 61 kilometers of encroached footpaths across the city as part of its ongoing 'Safe Footpath' initiative. The operation, conducted on 4 July 2026, targeted illegal structures, parked vehicles, and vendors occupying pedestrian walkways.

Equipment and Workforce Deployed

According to BBMP officials, the corporation hired temporary workers and deployed heavy machinery including JCBs, tractors, and tippers to remove encroachments. The drive covered major arterial roads and residential streets in several wards.

Impact on Pedestrians and Traffic

The clearance aims to improve pedestrian safety and reduce accidents. However, some local shopkeepers expressed concerns about loss of business. BBMP assured that alternative spaces would be identified for legitimate vendors. The total cleared length since the drive began now exceeds 200 km.
