Bengaluru Metro Extends NYE Services, Closes MG Road Station After 10 PM
Bengaluru Metro's NYE Plan: Extended Hours, MG Road Shut

In a major move to accommodate revellers, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced special operational plans for New Year's Eve. The corporation will extend train services across its network while implementing crowd control measures, including the closure of a key city centre station.

Extended Timings Across Key Metro Lines

To facilitate late-night celebrations, metro trains will run well past midnight on December 31. On the Purple Line, the final service from Whitefield will depart at 1:45 AM, while the last train from Challaghatta will leave at 2:00 AM.

For passengers on the Green Line, the last trains from both terminal stations—Madavara and Silk Institute—will commence their final journeys at 2:00 AM in both directions.

The newly operational Yellow Line will also see extended hours. The last train from RV Road will depart at 3:10 AM, and the final service from Bommasandra will leave at 1:30 AM.

From the central interchange, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic), the last trains heading towards all four terminal points—Whitefield, Challaghatta, Madavara, and Silk Institute—will depart at 2:45 AM.

Crowd Management: MG Road Station Shut, Token Sales Halted

Anticipating massive gatherings in the central business district, BMRCL has decided to close the MG Road metro station for entry and exit from 10:00 PM on December 31. However, trains will continue to halt at the adjacent Trinity and Cubbon Park stations, which will remain open for passenger boarding and deboarding.

To prevent long queues and ensure smooth flow, token sales at Trinity and Cubbon Park stations will be discontinued after 11:00 PM. Passengers travelling post-11:00 PM from these stations are strongly advised to either purchase return tickets in advance using QR code-based ticketing or to travel using smart cards loaded with sufficient balance.

From 11:30 PM onwards, train frequency will be increased. Trains will run at intervals of 8 minutes on the Purple and Green Lines and at 15-minute intervals on the Yellow Line.

BMTC Steps In With Additional Late-Night Bus Services

Complementing the metro's efforts, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will run additional bus services from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM from key points like MG Road and Brigade Road.

A fleet of seventy buses will be deployed for these late-night services, connecting to major residential and tech hubs. The buses will ply towards destinations including Electronics City, Jigani, Kengeri, Yelahanka, Banashankari, and Kadugodi.

Extra buses will also operate from other major transit points such as Majestic, KR Market, Shivajinagar, Yelahanka, Shantinagar, and Hebbal to ensure comprehensive connectivity for citizens returning home after the celebrations.

The coordinated plan by BMRCL and BMTC aims to provide safe, efficient, and extended public transport options for Bengaluru's residents on one of the busiest nights of the year, while proactively managing expected crowd surges in the city's core.
