Patna: The state government has submitted a detailed proposal to the Central Water Commission (CWC), Patna, for 105 schemes costing Rs 274.834 crore, minor water resources department minister Santosh Kumar Suman said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press meet, he outlined the department’s recent major achievements and its future roadmap and said the government has geared up with a firm resolve to ensure water reaches every farmer’s field, even amidst drought-like conditions in Bihar.

Extension of Irrigation Programme

Suman announced that, given the excellent and positive outcomes of the ‘Har Khet Tak Sinchai Ka Pani’ programme, the state government has decided to extend it until 2030 under the ‘Saat Nischay-3’ initiative.

The minister said based on a survey conducted to meet future irrigation needs, a total of 7,014 new schemes were identified. Once implemented in a phased manner, these schemes will enable the restoration of irrigation capacity for approximately 756,380 hectares in Bihar, directly benefiting lakhs of farmers.

Focus on Technical Training

To technically strengthen agricultural and irrigation infrastructure, the department has placed special emphasis on human resources. To enhance the professional competence of both newly appointed and serving engineers, the government is providing them with specialised training at the country’s premier technical institutions, such as IIT Roorkee and NIH (National Institute of Hydrology).
