The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has seized 2,870 packs of balloons and 3,000 toys from retail outlets in Sowcarpet, Chennai, for violating quality control norms. The action was taken following complaints regarding the sale of products without the mandatory ISI mark.

The BIS team conducted raids at Ambika Stores, Mahaveer Enterprises, and Shetrapal Impex, where they found the products lacking the ISI certification. The seized items include a large quantity of balloons and children's toys, which are required to comply with Indian quality standards.
Consumer Advisory
S D Dayanand, head of the BIS Chennai branch, urged consumers to verify the BIS license before purchasing any product. He emphasized that products without the ISI mark may be substandard and potentially hazardous. Consumers can check the authenticity of BIS licenses through the BIS Care app, the official BIS portal, or by scanning QR codes on product packaging.
