Cachar Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs 1.5 Crore, Arrest Two

Silchar: Cachar police have seized heroin valued at over Rs 1.5 crore in the international market and arrested two suspected peddlers.

Acting on a tip-off, a team set up a checkpoint on NH-6 (Badarpur-Shillong) in the Kalaincherra area, intercepted a vehicle, and searched it.

Cachar ASP (crime) Rajat Kumar Pal said the contraband was concealed inside a modified chamber within the vehicle. “Our team recovered 22 soap cases containing a total of 258g of heroin. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is well over Rs 1.5 crore,” Pal added.

Arrests and Legal Action

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ashikur Rahman and Muktar Hussain, both residents of Nagaon district. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

Police are interrogating the accused to map out their forward and backward linkages, aiming to bust the wider network involved in this inter-state smuggling ring.

The accused and the seized drugs remain in police custody as investigations continue.
