The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MC) initiated a significant crackdown on Saturday, targeting illegal vending and encroachments that have been clogging market corridors across the city. The special enforcement drive aimed to restore order and ensure the free flow of pedestrian traffic in several busy commercial areas.
Major Sectors Under Focus in Clean-Up Operation
The comprehensive action spanned multiple vital sectors, including Sectors 32, 46, 9, 48, 34, and 22, along with the area of Manimajra. Enforcement teams were tasked with dismantling unauthorised structures and relocating vendors operating from prohibited zones. The primary goal was to clear the market corridors, which are meant for public movement, from any obstructive elements.
Firm Action and Widespread Penalties
During the intensive operation, the civic body's staff did not hold back. They physically removed illegal setups and issued penalties to those flouting the rules. A total of 164 challans (fines) were issued to violators found encroaching upon public space. The drive was conducted under the direct supervision of Sunil Dutt, the Superintendent of the MC's Enforcement Wing. Dutt instructed his team to carry out their duties with firmness while ensuring the process remained fair and just for all.
A Continuous Effort for City's Planned Beauty
MC officials emphasized that this was not a one-time event. Such enforcement drives will be conducted regularly in the future. The objective is twofold: to uphold the city's renowned planned aesthetics, a hallmark of Chandigarh's design, and to safeguard public convenience. By maintaining clear pathways and market areas, the corporation aims to enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors who frequent these commercial hubs.
The action underscores the administration's commitment to preserving the architectural and civic integrity of the city, ensuring that public spaces remain accessible and visually orderly as originally intended.
