Chennai: A family of four, including an elderly couple, is fighting for their lives after attempting suicide at their residence in Nanmangalam near Pallikaranai on Wednesday morning.

Discovery by employees

Police reported that Balaji, a 35-year-old vegetable trader, did not open his shop on Wednesday morning. Concerned, his employees went to his house to check on him. With the help of neighbours, the employees called an ambulance and rushed the family to Tambaram District Government Hospital.

Financial troubles and childlessness

According to police sources, the family had been facing severe financial difficulties, with debts estimated at around ₹1 crore following substantial losses in Balaji's vegetable business. Additionally, Balaji and Priya, married for eight years, were distressed over not having children. Their condition is reported to be critical.
