Berhampur: Police on Monday recovered the decomposed body of a 76-year-old man from a forest area near Bramhanapadara under Tarasingi police station limits in Ganjam district, five days after he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Hrusikesh Sahu, a resident of Bramhanapadar. A police search team found his decomposed body about 5km from his home. “The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem at sub-divisional hospital, Bhanjanagar,” said Subhalaxmi Pujari, inspector in-charge, Tarasingi police station.
Police said despite the family members' restriction, the old man went to the forest to collect firewood every day. On June 11, he left home around 10 am. He, however, did not return home. The family members lodged a missing report on the same day, she said.
Police said the exact cause of his death would be ascertained only after post-mortem. They, however, suspected he might have died due to a heatstroke. There was no complaint from the family members against anyone regarding his death, police said.
