Delhi Building Collapse Near Saket Metro Kills 4, Rescue On

NEW DELHI: At least four people were killed and several others injured after a four-storey building collapsed near Saket Metro Station in south Delhi on Saturday evening, triggering a massive rescue operation. Ten people had been pulled out from the rubble late evening as teams from the Delhi Fire Service, NDRF and other agencies continued search efforts at the site in Saidulajab.

Emergency Response

The Delhi Fire Service received the distress call at 7:44 pm and dispatched emergency units to the site. According to fire service officials, three water tenders and one incident response team were deployed at the scene. A Delhi Fire Service spokesperson stated, "A house collapse was reported in Saket in South Delhi. The Delhi Fire Service received the call at around 7:44 pm and dispatched fire tenders to the spot."

Building Details and Cause

An official said that the building had four storeys and preliminary information suggests that additional construction was under way on the third floor. The official explained that the structure suddenly gave way, leaving little time for occupants to react. The building collapsed entirely onto an adjacent temporary tin-shed canteen, where several people, including youngsters who were having dinner, got trapped under the debris.

Rescue operations continued through the night as teams worked to locate any remaining trapped individuals. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
