Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered a magisterial probe into the recent building collapse in the Saidulajab area, which resulted in multiple casualties. The decision came after a review of the incident, which highlighted possible lapses in construction norms and regulatory oversight.

The building, located in the densely populated Saidulajab locality, collapsed on Tuesday evening, trapping several residents under the debris. Rescue operations were launched immediately, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police, and local authorities working tirelessly to pull out survivors. So far, the official death toll stands at five, with more than a dozen injured. Search operations are still underway to ensure no one is left trapped.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the magisterial probe during a press conference on Wednesday. She stated that the inquiry would be conducted by a senior magistrate and would investigate the causes of the collapse, including any negligence by builders, local authorities, or regulatory bodies. The probe is expected to submit its report within a month.
Gupta also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured them of full support from the state government. She announced an ex-gratia compensation of INR 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and free treatment for the injured in government hospitals.
