The Delhi Police has announced a new initiative called 'Jan Sunwai' (public hearing) to be held every week at all police stations across the national capital. Starting from June 14, senior officers will personally listen to complaints and grievances from the public at their respective police stations.
Objective of Jan Sunwai
The primary goal of this weekly program is to enhance transparency and accountability within the police force. By providing a direct platform for citizens to voice their concerns, the Delhi Police aims to address issues promptly and build trust with the community. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve police-public relations and ensure swift resolution of problems.
How It Will Work
Every week, a designated senior officer, such as the Station House Officer (SHO) or a deputy commissioner of police, will be present at each police station to hear complaints. Citizens can visit their local police station during specified hours to register their grievances. The officers will take note of each complaint and initiate necessary action. Follow-up mechanisms will be in place to ensure that complaints are resolved in a timely manner.
Senior Officers to Lead
The initiative will be overseen by senior officers from each district. They will personally attend the sessions to ensure that all complaints are heard and addressed. This direct involvement is expected to reduce delays and improve the quality of service provided to the public.
Public Response
The announcement has been welcomed by residents and community leaders, who see it as a positive step towards better policing. Many hope that the weekly hearings will lead to faster resolution of long-standing issues such as traffic violations, noise complaints, and neighborhood disputes.
Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora stated that the Jan Sunwai program reflects the force's commitment to citizen-centric policing. He urged the public to participate actively and provide feedback to help improve the initiative further.
Implementation Details
The Jan Sunwai will be held on a fixed day each week, which may vary by police station. Citizens are advised to check with their local station for the exact schedule. The program will initially run for a trial period, after which it may be expanded based on its success.
