Fire Breaks Out at Cloth Trader's Home in Kanpur
A significant fire erupted late Saturday night at the residence of a cloth trader in the Chakeri police station area, causing panic among residents of Satbari Road near Yadav Chauraha. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within 45 minutes, preventing it from spreading to adjacent shops and homes.
According to cloth trader Himanshu Yadav, the fire is suspected to have started due to a short circuit in the electrical wiring of a first-floor room. The flames rapidly spread to goods stored in the room, resulting in extensive damage to household items, furniture, and other valuables.
Family members evacuated safely before the fire intensified. Local residents noticed flames and thick smoke billowing from the house and alerted the fire department.
Two fire tenders from Jajmau Fire Station arrived at the scene and launched firefighting operations. After strenuous efforts, firefighters successfully controlled the blaze.
Fire officer Rahul Nandan stated that information about the incident was received through the control room, prompting immediate dispatch of a team. Initial investigations suggest a short circuit as the likely cause.
He added that around half a dozen shops located beneath and adjacent to the house were closed at the time. Any delay in controlling the fire could have led to its spread to those shops and neighboring houses, worsening the situation.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
