Chennai: Two police personnel, including a special sub-inspector, sustained injuries after a government bus collided with a parked police patrol vehicle on the Trichy-Chennai national highway in Chengalpet district early on Saturday. The incident occurred when the patrol team from Padalam police station had completed their rounds in the Athimanam area and parked their vehicle on the roadside.
Details of the accident
The injured officers were identified as Special Sub-Inspector Gunasekaran and Constable Vijayaraj, both attached to the highway patrol unit of Padalam police station. According to police sources, the patrol team had parked the vehicle on the roadside after finishing their patrol duties. A government bus traveling from Kallakurichi to Kilambakkam bus terminus in Chennai rammed into the parked vehicle, causing severe damage to the police vehicle.
Rescue and medical attention
Police personnel from nearby units rushed to the spot and rescued the injured officers. They were immediately shifted to a government hospital for medical treatment. The condition of both officers is reported to be stable. The bus driver has been detained for questioning, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution on highways, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be reduced. The damaged police vehicle has been towed away for inspection.
