Gandhinagar: The Gujarat state government on Tuesday announced stricter enforcement of traffic violations following amendments to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. Under the new regulations, drivers who accumulate five or more traffic challans in a single year may face temporary suspension of their driving licence.
According to an official statement, the Union government has introduced a fixed timeline for motorists to challenge e-challans. Vehicle owners or drivers will have 45 days from the date of issuance of an e-challan to file an objection or grievance.
If no complaint is registered within this period, the e-challan will be treated as accepted by the vehicle owner or driver. The pending fine must then be paid within the next 30 days.
The government further stated that failure to pay the challan amount within the stipulated period will result in the vehicle being marked as “Not to be Transacted” on the Vahan portal. Once a vehicle receives this status, no administrative services related to the vehicle will be processed until all pending dues are cleared.
Authorities urged citizens to pay outstanding e-challans without delay to avoid legal complications, blocking of vehicle-related services and stricter action, including suspension of driving licences.
The revised rules are aimed at ensuring timely settlement of traffic penalties and improving compliance with road safety regulations.
