Gujarat Professor Rescued from Ebola-Hit Congo After Month-Long Ordeal
Gujarat Professor Rescued from Ebola-Hit Congo

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government successfully facilitated the return of a professor who had been stranded for a month in the Ebola-affected Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Professor's Ordeal

Amin Sana, an assistant professor at R R Lalan College in Bhuj, found himself unable to return after restrictions were imposed along the Rwanda-Congo border due to Ebola concerns. He had entered Goma legally to meet a childhood friend, planning to travel onward to Tanzania, but Rwanda shut its border with the DRC just two days later, preventing his return to Kigali.

Government Intervention

An official statement noted that Sana sought assistance from the state government to facilitate his return. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi stated, “Through the coordinated efforts of the Gujarat State Non-Resident Gujarati Foundation, the Ministry of External Affairs, and Indian diplomatic missions, we were able to provide timely support and assistance to a citizen caught in a difficult international situation.”
