Hisar District Uncovers LPG Black Marketing Operation Amid Global Tensions
In the Hisar district of Haryana, authorities have exposed a significant case of black marketing involving domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. This discovery comes at a time when widespread concerns are mounting over potential shortages, largely fueled by the escalating conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. The food and supplies department took decisive action by conducting targeted raids across various establishments.
Extensive Raids Yield Substantial Seizures
During these operations, officials inspected numerous hotels, restaurants, sweet shops, and other eateries throughout the district. Their efforts resulted in the confiscation of a total of 73 gas cylinders. The seized inventory included 39 commercial cylinders and 34 domestic cylinders, highlighting the scale of the illicit activity. District Food and Supplies Controller Kushal Boora provided crucial clarifications regarding the overall supply situation in the region.
Boora emphasized that the LPG supply chain in Hisar district remains fully operational and normal. He presented detailed data to support this claim, noting that on March 30, a substantial delivery of 8,136 filled cylinders was received from three major oil companies. Additionally, 23 local gas agencies currently hold a stockpile of 10,910 cylinders. This brings the total available inventory to an impressive 19,046 cylinders, indicating robust reserves.
Administration's Proactive Measures and Distribution Efforts
The administration has been actively working to manage demand, particularly during the ongoing wedding season which typically sees increased consumption. On March 29 alone, a total of 3,216 refills were successfully distributed to consumers across the district. To further address seasonal needs, special arrangements have been implemented. A committee led by the deputy commissioner has been processing applications for additional cylinders.
Out of 181 applications received by March 29, 73 have already been approved, and the committee has allocated 297 commercial cylinders to eligible entities. These measures are designed to ensure a steady and fair distribution system, preventing panic and hoarding.
Village Protest Highlights Delivery Challenges
Despite these assurances, tension erupted in Ghirai village within the Hisar district. Angry residents took matters into their own hands by stopping a gas supply vehicle and staging a spontaneous protest. The villagers voiced serious allegations, claiming that consumers who had pre-booked their LPG cylinders were not receiving their scheduled deliveries. This triggered significant uproar and frustration among the local population.
Furthermore, consumers accused delivery personnel of engaging in blackmail and arbitrary conduct, exacerbating the situation. Authorities swiftly responded to the unrest; a Dial 112 police team arrived at the scene after receiving urgent information and successfully brought the volatile situation under control. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in ensuring smooth and transparent delivery operations, even when overall supply levels are deemed adequate.
The discovery of black marketing, coupled with the village protest, paints a complex picture of the LPG scenario in Hisar. While officials maintain that supplies are normal and reserves are plentiful, ground-level issues and illicit activities continue to disrupt access for some residents. The administration's crackdown and proactive measures aim to restore confidence and stability in the district's gas distribution network.
