The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has initiated stringent action against teachers and employees who allegedly remained absent from census work despite being assigned duty and receiving training for the exercise. On Monday, the corporation's Sanganer zone wrote to Malpura Gate police station seeking registration of FIRs against eight teachers for failing to report for census-related work.
Earlier on Friday, Jagatpura and Jhalana zone deputy commissioner Mamta Nagar wrote to the Jawahar Circle police station recommending FIRs against 10 employees under provisions of the Census Act, 1948. According to JMC officials, all the employees concerned had already undergone census training but continued to remain absent from duty. Notices were also issued to them by the respective zonal offices, but officials said neither did the employees report to the offices nor did they carry out enumeration work under the HLB process.
The corporation has stated that the repeated absence of staff is affecting ongoing census work in the city. Based on this, the concerned police stations have been asked to initiate action and register FIRs under Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948.
