Despite the Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s pre-monsoon claims of improving drainage and sanitation systems, residents in parts of Malviya Nagar and Pratap Nagar continue to struggle with basic civic problems.
Flooding on Newly Constructed Road
In Malviya Nagar’s Ward 75, Sarvanand Marg, a newly constructed road is witnessing flooding even after light rainfall. The road connects nearby residential colonies with Malviya Nagar and Jawahar Circle and witnesses heavy daily traffic. According to residents, the slope on the newly built road was not designed properly, causing rainwater to accumulate within minutes of a shower.
Manish Agrawal, a resident, said people expected relief after the road was rebuilt, but the problem surfaced during the very first spell of rain. “Complaints have been made several times, but no corrective work has started so far,” he said.
Garbage Piled Up After Drain Cleaning
Meanwhile, residents in Pratap Nagar Sector 18-19 have complained that waste removed during drain-cleaning operations has been left lying on the roadside for days. The stretch leading towards Sitapura Industrial Area, used daily by thousands of office-goers and industrial workers, is now facing a foul smell and unhygienic conditions.
Kavita Sharma, a resident of the area, said drain cleaning was necessary, but the waste should have been removed immediately afterwards. “The garbage has been lying here for days, and the entire area smells,” she said.
Rahul Meena, who commutes through the route daily, said the piled-up waste was affecting traffic movement during peak hours.
JMC Preparations vs Ground Reality
JMC announced pre-monsoon preparations, including identification of flooding-prone areas, drain-cleaning drives and monitoring of sensitive stretches. However, residents say the ground situation tells a different story, with civic shortcomings becoming visible even before the arrival of heavy rain.
Residents have urged the civic body to address flooding and sanitation issues before the monsoon intensifies further.
