Jharkhand Chamber Seeks Mixed-Use Policy for Colonies

The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) has demanded permission for residential-cum-commercial use in housing colonies at Harmu, Bariatu, and Argora. Association members emphasized that a practical solution is needed, advocating for a mixed-use policy similar to other states.

Delegation Meets Minister

A delegation of the association met Housing and Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum on the issue. The demand comes amid growing concern among traders after the state housing board initiated cancellation of trade licenses and ordered closure of commercial establishments in these colonies, citing their residential status in line with recent Supreme Court directives.

Impact on Businesses

Business owners reported disruptions and uncertainty, as many establishments have been operating for years. FJCCI stated that sudden enforcement affected livelihoods and local economic activity, urging authorities to adopt a practical approach.

Proposed Framework

The chamber has proposed a regulated framework allowing limited commercial use within residential areas. It stressed that a balanced policy would protect both the residential character and the interests of small businesses operating in these localities. The association hopes the government will consider their request to avoid further economic distress.
