The Karnal police have arrested the second accused in a firing case following a brief encounter. The incident occurred late last night when police intercepted the suspect based on a tip-off. The accused, identified as Ravi, opened fire on the police team, prompting them to retaliate. In the exchange of fire, Ravi sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is currently under police custody.
Details of the Encounter
According to senior police officials, the encounter took place near the Indri road area. The police had received intelligence that the accused was planning to flee the city. A team was formed under the supervision of DSP Rajesh Kumar. When the police signaled the suspect to stop, he instead fired at them. The police fired back in self-defense, injuring the accused.
Background of the Case
The firing case dates back to last month when Ravi and his accomplice, who was arrested earlier, allegedly fired at a shopkeeper in a dispute over money. The shopkeeper, Sunil, sustained minor injuries. The police had registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder. The first accused was arrested a week ago, and his interrogation led to the capture of Ravi.
Police Statement
Commissioner of Police, Karnal, said, "We are committed to ensuring the safety of citizens. The arrest of the second accused is a significant breakthrough in this case. We are investigating if the duo has any other criminal record." He also praised the police team for their bravery and quick action.
Legal Proceedings
The accused will be produced before a local court once he is discharged from the hospital. The police have also recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. Further investigation is underway to determine if there are any other accomplices.
