The area surrounding KBR Park in Hyderabad is poised to become signal-free as part of the city's ongoing initiatives to alleviate traffic congestion in key urban corridors. Under two separate packages, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is constructing a series of flyovers and underpasses around the KBR Park junction and Banjara Hills, with an investment exceeding Rs 1,000 crore.
Project Details and Objectives
This ambitious project aims to streamline vehicular movement and significantly reduce delays along one of Hyderabad's busiest traffic corridors. Officials have confirmed that all proposed flyovers and underpasses will be built within existing road medians, ensuring no encroachment on KBR Park land. The GHMC is also prioritizing the use of steel flyovers over conventional concrete structures, citing faster construction timelines as a key advantage.
Expected Impact on Traffic Flow
Once completed, the project is expected to create a fully signal-free corridor stretching from the Jubilee Hills check post to Film Nagar. Grade separators have been proposed at critical junctions, including Road No. 45, Film Nagar, Cancer Hospital, and Mugdha Junction. This infrastructure upgrade is anticipated to transform the commuting experience for thousands of daily travelers.
Environmental and Economic Benefits
According to GHMC estimates, the project could reduce air pollution levels by up to 72% by preventing 13.6 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in the Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills areas. Additionally, it is expected to save more than 40 crore litres of fuel annually, contributing to both environmental sustainability and economic efficiency.
