Kolkata Police Creates New Divisional Reserve Inspector Post
Kolkata Police Creates New Divisional Reserve Inspector Post

The Kolkata Police has introduced a new supervisory position called 'divisional reserve inspector' for all police divisions. This initiative follows directives from the newly formed state government to enhance responses to field-level challenges.

Role and Responsibilities

Senior police inspectors from the non-investigating cadre will be deployed to lead divisional logistics and force management. Under the new framework, these inspectors will function under the direct supervision of the respective divisional deputy commissioners of police (DCs). Their responsibilities are designed to ensure that active investigation units are not overwhelmed by daily administrative workload.

Key Duties

  • Act as the absolute in-charge of the divisional control room and the Motor Transport Office.
  • Handle mobilization and daily utilization of police force for heavy-duty law and order deployments, VIP escorts, static guard duties, and sudden reserve requirements.
  • Serve as the sole custodian responsible for maintenance, care, and strict accounting of all arms, ammunition, tactical gear, and clothing stores of the division.

Distinct Roles

Senior officials emphasized that the roles and functions of the newly created divisional reserve inspector and the existing reserve officer of the division will remain strictly distinct to avoid any overlapping. This move aims to streamline operations and improve efficiency within the police force.
