The Karnataka government has appointed Labhu Ram as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the computer wing. He replaces Pronab Mohanty, who was recently appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The appointment was announced on June 15, 2026.
Labhu Ram, a senior police officer, will now oversee the technological and cyber-related operations within the state police force. His role is expected to strengthen the department's capacity to handle digital evidence, cybercrime investigations, and IT infrastructure.
Pronab Mohanty, who previously held the position, has been elevated to head the CID, a key investigative agency in Karnataka. The reshuffle is part of the government's efforts to streamline police administration and enhance efficiency in specialized units.
The order was issued by the state home department, and Ram is expected to assume charge immediately. This move reflects the growing emphasis on cybersecurity and digital policing in Karnataka.
